DIY Witch cape and skirt

I knew last year, when my sweet Kylee was just shy of 2 years old, that it was going to be the last Halloween I was going to get to decide what she was going to be. I figured there would be plenty of princess's and fairy's and butterfly's in her future so I went for the cutesy witch costume!

The bodysuit, leggings and black boots were borrowed so the only thing I needed to come up with was the skirt and the cape. This cape was the very first thing I ever sewed. Ever. I didn't follow a pattern or any tutorial, and since I wasn't blogging then I didn't take pictures as I went, but trust me...it was EEEASY!

I made the cape and hood as two seperate pieces and then sewed them together. For the cape, I just started with a square piece of fabric that was big enough to go down to the back of her knee.

And enough at the top to drape right around her shoulders.

At the top of the cape I left a 1" loop (by folding the top of the fabric over 1" and sewing a seam) and slid a green ribbon through to be able to cinch the cape at the top and tie it around her neck.
The skirt is just a purple and green tulle skirt (that if you're interested in making you can find a million tutorials for just by searching for tulle skirt tutorial). I used more tulle than the average tulle skirt calls for because I wanted it to be very full! After all the strips of tulle were tied on, I scrunched up the tulle in random spots all over to make it a little more spunky and witch like!

The witch hat I just picked up from the dollar store!

Under the hat, we did some fun *witch* hair!

Hopefully this year it won't be as rainy and cold as it was last year, but hopefully we DO get good candy! :)

Witching you a happy halloween! :)
